" Ready, steady, throw!" for Bressuire schoolchildren, too
Young schoolchildren in the Bressuire area are getting ready for their own Highland Games that will take place two days before the IHGF World Championship.
And about 100 of them have just practised before this competition they are all looking forward to.
The kids' Highland Games will be open to the 12 classes in the Deux-Sèvres département who are matched with one of the 12 champions, thanks to the "one class, one champion" programme.
These activities were supervised last Friday by teachers, parents and members of the Bressuire Highland Games Committee.
A different kind of pole-vaulting
Among the different events, the children had the opportunity to discover a traditionnal one often mentionned in the blog: pole-vaulting.
And they did enjoy it!
Especially because it was pole-vaulting for distance: they didn't have tu jump as high as possible, but as far as possible!
Of course, the other traditionnal events were part of the programme.
The young schoolkids all had the opportunity to throw the weight for distance and also the weight over bar.
And they had the opportunity to toss the caber as well...
The blogger really enjoyed watching these throws and did appreciate the competitors' motivation, even if the weight sometimes blew up in their face (photo)!
Definitely, the kids will be ready for their official Highland Games at the castle next week.
After the blogger's quizzes, after the activities at school, after their training, these highland games for kids will be the climax of their schoolyear just before the IHGF Worlds.
Then it will be time for them to appreciate the champions' throws and the Games' special atmosphere....
