2014 Flasback (3): The year of the hammer
For the Chinese zodiac, 2014 was the year of the horse
Definitely, for the Highland Games, it was the year of the horse-power.
Especially for hammer-throw.
Dan Mc KIM, U.S.A. broke the two hammer-throw world records at the same UTAH Highland Games in June:
- 132’ 10-1/4” in the 22-lb. hammer
- 157’ 7-1/4” in the 16-lb. hammer.
Of course, Dan will be in Bressuire for the IHGF Worlds on June 13, 14

Cyrille BOUCHER broke the French record at the Luzarches Highland Games in September.
He reached 29.96 meters in the 16-Ib.hammer.
Quite a distance for a newcomer, isn't it?
Cyrille BOUCHER's year
After winning the Thiron-Gardais Highland Games, his new French record was the highlight of his season.
For him, too, 2014 was the year of the hammer
No doubt! Cyrille will be one of the favourites for the 2015 French Championship in Bressuire.
And if the Bressuire "Bockers" want to hold their titles after victories in 2010 and 2011 with Amine AMROUN, in 2012 with Belkacem SMAHI and in 2013 with Seb PIZON, they mustn remember that 2014 in France was Cyrille's year.
Laurent JALABERT, the former Yellow Jersey of the Tour de France, tried to throw the hammer when he came to Bressuire.
And he enjoyed it!
And he did well, thanks to his coach Seb PIZON, the 2013 French champion
TO HAVE MORE ON THE BLOG
And, last but not least, Christmas time on the blog also celebrates the year of the hammer.
The French Père Noël has just hammered in his Christmas greetings on the Highland Games blog.
We don't know yet how far he threw.
But, according to the specialists, his performance was quite interesting.
Hammer-throw: the highlight of the 2015 Worlds?
No need for all of them to sing "If I had a hammer".
Definitely in Bressuire we have one light hammer and one heavy hammer and these events will certainly provide one of the best hammer-throw competition ever.
So, like many of you, I just can't wait for the 2015 IHGF Worlds at the castle
