The first "Open Highland games France" has just taken place in Thiron-Gardais, near Chartres.
One year before the World Championship in Bressuire, the six competitors coming for Bressuire and Luzarches had to throw in difficult conditions because of the heat.
Among the six throwers on the photo with the speaker and the judges were Belkacem SMAHI (second from the left), a Bocker from Bressuire who won the French championship in 2012 and Sebastien PIZON (fifth from the left), the winner of the French Championship in 2013.
Unfortunately for Bressuire, neither of them was strong enough to beat Cyrille BOUCHER, 140 kilos, from Luzarches (sixth from the left). He won the competition after three victories (light weight, light hammer and weight for height).
The heavy stone was won by Belkacem SMAHI from Bressuire with a new French record for a 10-kilo stone (9m67, 31'8.7"). Cyrille Bouchet was number 2 with 30' 7.7".
Sebastien PIZON won the caber with Smahi second and Bouchet third.
A new French record (category B)
In the competition between Luzarches and Bressuire, Cyrille Boucher's victory was quite a surprise but the young 140-kilo thrower, only 26, really deserved to win this Thiron-Gardais Open.
He said after the Games:
"I really enjoyed my three victories, but the greatest satisfaction is my new French record for the 20-kilo weight for height (4.60 meters, 15'1.1").
His personal best was only 4.10 meters
Everybody is now looking forward to the next French Championships.
They should be very promising!
