Highland Games 2013: Year of Germany, Year of the Woman
As usual, the 2013 Bressuire Highland Games will be a show of Strength.
But, this year, they will also celebrate Germany and Women.
And this photo of Uli MÜLLER and Petra MÜLLER in Luzarches last September is a perfect symbol of this double focus on Germany and Women.
Men: Three German throwers
Uli MÜLLER is the latest newcomer in the line-up and the third German in the Open Competition after David FREY and Daniel DOROW who will compete in the amateur European Championship.
But there is more to come...
The Games will celebrate the German-French friendship which is already strong in Bressuire, thanks to a strong twinning with Friedberg.
But they will also celebrate women.
Historic first
Three of the throwers on June 8 and 9 will be women.
And they will be German...
Petra MÜLLER, Renate RIEGER and Meïke STÖFFLER will throw and prove to the spectators in Bressuire that the Highland Games are not labelled " men only".
And that'll be a history first!
As you can see, we can find six good reasons to let the giant cork of Bouvet Ladubay pop-up again (photo June 2011 in Ludwigsburg with Jean-Claude BORDONNAT of the Bressuire committee after a demonstration of cork-throw)
What a show it will be in Bressuire!
- Throwers from Bressuire and Luzarches competing for the French national Championship
- Amateurs and Professionnal throwers in an Open Competition
- Women from Germany showing their strength and stamina
- Music and bagpipes all over the place
And to top it all
- Strong Men pulling trucks in the heart of this fantastic castle.
So, it could be a great idea come to Bressuire for the Highland Games
Of course, we'll have more about it in the weeks to come...
