Jimmy Van de Walle in Luzarches: a lesson in moderation
They have just proved that a country can tick over quite nicely for 16 months without a government.
And at Luzarches, one of them proved that you can land on the top step of a Highland Games podium without ever actually winning a single event!
Hammer and tongs: no way!
The secret is to make sure that you are always second or third. And in Category A, Jimmy VAN DE WALLE chalked up 6 second places and 2 thirds totalling only 18 points, the best overall score.
- Jimmy VAN DE WALLE (Belgium)
- Stephen KING (Scotland)
- Daniel CARLIN (Scotland)
Of course, you can’t help feeling that it’s a mean way to win, but on the other hand such regularity is no mean sporting feat.
You could say that Jimmy does not throw his weight around unnecessarily, he doesn’t go at things hammer (and tongs) and he only casts stones when he has to.
In fact, he’s a model of moderation and the living proof that you don’t have to be first all the time to come out on top in the end!
