The third edition of the handigames
UPDATE: Coming soon... photos about the Handiparade and the Handigames
If asked what the towns of Aberdeen, Bressuire, Fraserburgh, Leixlip and Stavenger have got in common, any twinning-conscious person will tell you that Bressuire is twinned with Fraserburgh in Scotland and Leixlip in Ireland; and Aberdeen is not far from Fraserburgh.
So far, so good.
But Stavenger in Norway? What’s the connection there? Another twinned town ?
Not so. Stavenger is the town which inspired the International Handigames (photo) which will take place during the weekend of August 27th- 28th with participants from all the above-mentioned towns.
This will be the third edition of the Handigames, the first one having taken place in Fraserburgh in 2009 and the second one in Stavenger in 2010.
These games give young sportsmen and women the chance to meet and compete with their counterparts from other countries in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.
This year they will be showing their skills in the following disciplines: bowling, boccia (indoor bowls), laser shooting, curling, blowpipe shooting, and last but not least, the Bocage speciality: “petits palets” – a sort of pétanque played with flat discs.
The Handigames are part of the Bressuire Fraserburgh Twinning’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
They will take place at the Métayer stadium in Bressuire and if the 2009 and 2010 editions are anything to go by, they will be an uplifting experience for competitors and spectators alike.
So don’t miss them! Go and cheer on the athletes!
The more spectators, the better!
