The weekend of May 14th will mark the 15th anniversary of the twinning between Bressuire and Leixlip in Ireland.

So festivities are in the Eire!

F1110021_eoinIt’s an appropriate moment to travel back in time to the Bressuire Highland Games of 2005 when Ireland entered its very own athlete: Eoin WENGEL.

Although only 19 years old and weighing in at a “mere” 110 kilos, Eoin managed to Wengel his way into the Sunday finals by qualifying in the weight and hammer events.

Leixslip, lip, lip-hourrah

He was thus able to measure up to professionals such as Gregor Edmunds, Bruce Aitken and Woult Ziljstra.

A fine example of how the Bressuire-Leixlip twinning has promoted sporting events.

So here’s wishing the twinning a very happy Birthday!
